How to Verify a PG Owner Before Booking
Simple checks and documents you should review before paying a token or deposit for any PG so you avoid fraud and disputes later.
Talk Directly to the PG Decision Maker
Before transferring any money, make sure you are speaking to the actual owner or an authorized manager of the PG. Avoid middlemen who are unwilling to share the property address or visit timings.
Ask for a government ID of the person you are dealing with and cross‑check the name on digital payments, rental receipts, or the rental agreement draft.
Visit the Property and Verify Basic Documents
Always visit the property at least once before paying a token or deposit. Use the visit to confirm that the rooms, washrooms, and common areas match the photos shared online.
Politely ask if they have property tax receipts, an electricity bill, or a previous rental agreement in the same name. Legitimate PG operators are usually comfortable showing at least one supporting document.
Use Traceable Payment Methods Only
Avoid paying large cash amounts without any written proof. Prefer UPI, bank transfer, or card payments where the receiver name clearly matches the owner or registered business.
After paying, always take a receipt or at least a clear written confirmation over SMS, WhatsApp, or email mentioning the amount, date, and what the payment is for (token, deposit, or first month rent).
